It's Been A Year! (My Blogiversary + BTS)

I am sitting here writing this post in awe that my blog, Broken Eggshells, has lasted a year! I started this blog a year ago + 1 day ago on July 13, 2012. It is crazy how time flies because I feel like I just started! My first post was an about me post which included this tiny, fuzzy picture of me. (Hello black hair hehe!) This picture was from 2+ years ago and I just cannot comprehend how much I have changed.

Broken Eggshells

I started this blog in summer 2012 as something fun to do. I used to blog on a site called Luuux (which doesn't really work now) and I figured I might as well start my own blog so I can keep all of my post organized. I really didn't know what I wanted to write about at first so I took inspiration from Luuux. I saw many people doing outfit of the day's, hauls, and makeup tutorials which intrigued me. I kinda wanted my blog to take a route similar to that yet at the same time, I wanted some of my personal life experiences in there too. After many post, I finally figured out how I could do both now!

In honor of my anniversary, here my top 10 favorite/notable post- (clicking the caption will bring you to that specific post =)

It's crazy how much can happen in a year! I am looking through all my pictures and each picture really does tell a story! I'm wondering what another year will bring for me now! This year is going to be a big year for me as far as school since I am graduating in 2014 and I am off to college. I am hoping to be able to keep up with my blog!
To be honest, when I first started my blog, I anticipated it to be just a summer thing. I actually did give up on it in Oct. 2012 (where I posted ~1-3 post a month!), however I did jump back on after break! I wanted to solidify my commitment to my blog even more by purchasing my own domain in Jan. I went from mindy13579.blogspot.com to mybrokeneggshells.com. Having my own domain just makes me feel so much more professional ! hehe Since then, I have developed my own schedule for posting which I can keep to. I currently post ever Sun. and Wed! I'm not sure what is going to happen once senior year starts (maybe post on Sunday only..) , but I determined to keep my blog updated!

Now for a little fun, I wanted to show you guys how I take the photos for my blog, kinda of like a behind the scenes. It's actually quite comical actually because I don't own a tripod so I made do with a "homemade one.."
All I do is take 2-3 buckets like this -

buckets

and a cinder block for extra height-

Cinder Block

Now all I do is place my camera on top, set the mode to burst (takes 5 photos in a row) and set the timer on. Then I run to my place, smile, pose, and volia, I have photos! I repeat this step as many times as necessarily till I am done! =)

Behind the Scenes

Behind the Scenes

I am thinking of purchasing a new camera soon and a tripod so I don't have to do this anymore. I just want to make sure it's a good choice and pick out a camera. I have my eyes on a few, but I haven't quite chosen it yet! I think HQ pictures for my blog would be really nice!!

When is your Blogiversary + What motivates you to keep posting? I personally really love interacting with people and I enjoy being able to capture my life!
Which is your favorite post so far from my blog + What would you like to see more off?

  1. Congrats on making it one year! Isn't it amazing seeing your blog develop into something amazing ?? Seeing it all come into fruition gives you such a sense of accomplishment, doesn't it? I have had my blog for two years, and haven't made nearly as much progress as you!! Good job!!

I can't believe you are still in highschool! I seriously thought you were older (just still had your cute baby face! hehe) I am ecstatic to see how far you will be by this time next year.

BTW-- Nice 'tripod' -- hey whatever works, works! Just be sure to keep your camera steady so the wind doesn't knock it over when you're 10ft away from it-- that would not be good. You take sure great pictures, they seem so professional. Not to mention your poses are soo adorable! :)

Okay, ill shut up now. I have been on here lately, so I'll go catch up with your other posts! ;))

    To many, many more years!!!

    1. haha.. if only I could force my sister! Shes not that easy! grr.
purchasing your own domain is so worth it! it's a little complicated tech wise, but they have a live person coach you through it if you need. And it's pretty cheap too! I got mine for less than 10 dollars a year! =)

  12. Thanks for taking us behind the scenes! Maybe a tripod would be easier to handle but it also takes time to set up (I've got one and I almost never use it). Great to read how passionate you are about your blog. Keep it going!

outside pictures look a lot better in my opinion as long as you avoid harsh sunlight or darkness. .. well actually it is harder to take good photos outside, but if you get it correct, they can look amazing hehe
